Photonic Systems
Photonic systems research includes the design, fabrication, characterization, and system integration of optical components based on optical fibers and other glass, organic, and semiconductor optical materials. These components are needed in all applications where light signals must be generated, processed, and detected. Such applications are widespread and include all forms of communications, environmental sensing, materials processing, and instrumentation (scientific, industrial, security, and medical). Photonic systems are used in many kinds of high-speed, broadband, and ultra-short pulsed laser light sources and amplifiers; in wavelength multiplexing, coding, and filtering; in polarization and dispersion management.
